A critical misconception among crypto beginners is believing that their tokens live inside their smartphone wallet app. They do not.
**All coins live solely as balances recorded on the public blockchain.**

Your wallet is actually a safe container that stores your **Private Key** and manages your public addresses.

### Categorizing Your Access Tools
* **Custodial Account (Exchanges):** A third-party company holds your keys. You log in with standard credentials. This exposes you to exchange failure and counterparty risk.
* **Non-Custodial Hot Wallet:** Mobile apps or browser extensions (Trust Wallet, Metamask). These store keys on an internet-adjacent device, making them vulnerable to local spyware or malware.
* **Cold Hardware Wallet:** A physical device (Ledger, Trezor) that isolates keys entirely offline, away from active internet threats, preventing key capture.
